Wagyu beef is the most sought after beef in the world, most desired due to the natural marbling that occurs genetically within the cow. The sight of fat freaks me out with its wobbly slimy touch and chewy touch nature. However the Wagyu beef burger was amazing. Didn't taste any fat at all!
Reservations are not taken at Flat Iron, but the two hour wait was worth every minute. Our names were noted down and we were sent a link to notify us when our table was ready, sipping cocktails in a bar close by in the mean time. The small restaurant features wood decor, long benches and a simple menu written on large chalk boards hanging from the walls. We were seated on a long bench with two other couples and couldn't stop ogling their steak choices.
Our waitress happily recommended us selections of the menu and beamed with a warn friendliness. Nathan ordered the 'Flat Iron steak' (£10) which is served with a house leaf salad and chose 'Fred's sauce' (£1) for the steak. I picked the 'Wagyu beef burger' (£15), with two sides to share; 'dripping cooked chips' (£2.50) and 'Sophie's salad' (£3.50) consisting of blue cheese, candied pecans and lemon dressing.
Nathan adored the steak, served as slices presented on a large wooden board and savoured every inch of 'Sophie's salad'. The chips were great but not memorable; amazing chips are rare and hard to come by. My Wagyu beef burger was beyond delicious. Dripping with lashings of truffle mayo, the seeded brioche bun and succulent beef patty were a combination that set off taste explosions on my tongue. The whole burger was truly beautiful. I enjoyed every moment of eating the meal and look forward to revisiting the burger again in the future.
My only regret is that I couldn't take home the mini meat cleaver. So cute.
